Moonlit
2007
34” x 23.33”

This piece was influenced by the unique rhythm of Jazz which I listened to while composing this painting.   You can hear the melody as you watch the self recorded script of this piece being hand painted with a virtual brush, stroke by stroke.

After sponging the background, I used thick strokes of oil paint with rich, vivid tones and textures to create a beautiful balance between line and form, making this work seemingly come alive with intimate human sensations.

For most pieces, I tend to be a thick painter; I like working with a lot of paint because the process becomes similar to a sculptor through the additive and subtractive quality of applying the paint.  I want the paint to form the figure while also showing a spontaneous quality and a border handling of the medium.

I appreciate art that brings out the character of the subject as opposed to merely the structure.
