This image is based on a photograph taken at a "Shade Tree Pickers" concert in the park.  I was thrilled to have captured this seemingly classic image.  As I sketched out the composition for this piece, it was important to me for the painting to remain timeless.

Regarding the technical aspect of the painting, because the original photo was taken on a bright sunny day with a long lens, it had a limited tonal range.  I decided to mix a paint palette with much warmer, more saturated colors.  I painted the portrait against a black background to bring greater depth and contrast to the overall image and to enhance the skin tones.

I appreciate art that is elegantly ageless.
