Ashton and the Dixie Queen
2006
30” x 31”

After a recent study of the “trick of the eye” painting technique of old, I painted this simply irresistible wet head boy with gorgeous eyes eating a slice of watermelon.  Using a photo taken “in the moment” by his father as a reference, I created an initial black and white sketch.  I “squeezed” the image in so tight with a black and red frame that the hands and watermelon seem to literally pop right out of the frame.

I appreciate art that combines old world techniques and contemporary subject matter.
